The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is a Maharashtrian regional party based in Maharashtra and operates on the motto of "Sons of the Soil". It was founded on 9 March 2006 in Mumbai by Raj Thackeray after he left the Shiv Sena party due to differences with his paternal cousin Uddhav Thackeray and to his sidelining by the Shiv Sena in major decisions like distribution of election tickets.The most popular and in the news political party in Mumbai is the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.Since then, within 4 years, MNS has gained the popularity of the masses and is constantly in the rounds and news channels for some or the other incidents.
In speech which is given by Mr. Raj Thackeray while party inauguration on 9th of March, 2006, he gave significance of flag of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. He deliberately decided that orange color represents Hindus, Green represents Muslims along with Blue that repersents Dalits. He also revealed the symbol or election of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena that is train. In February 2008, some MNS activists clashed with Samajwadi Party (SP) party workers in Mumbai when Samajwadi Party supporters attended a rally at Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai, a stronghold of MNS, where Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi made a fiery speech. After the clashes, 73 MNS activists and 19 SP workers were arrested by Mumbai Police for indulging in violence.On 6 February 2008, reportedly, about 200 Congress and NCP party workers quit the party and joined Maharashtra Navnirman Sena to support MNS's pro Marathi agenda.
In October 2008, MNS activists beat up North Indian candidates appearing for the all-India Railway Recruitment Board entrance exam for the Western region in Mumbai.The Shiv Sena, however, maintained a cool response, although senior party leader Manohar Joshi said they were close to supporting the MNS in their agitation against the non-Marathi candidates for the railway board exam.It has been several speculations over original reason for his resignation from the party. The well-liked rumor to be that Raj was being secondary by Mr. Bal Thackeray’s son named Uddhav Thackeray. In the similar year he announced the intention for starting political party of his own.
